Slowly descending the Mountain of Dew.......

I am officially done drinking soda. Mt. Dew, Vault, Coke, Pepsi, Diet Coke, Vault Zero.....I'm done with it all. I have been drinking at least one a day for about 10 years now, and I am over it. I have gone 3 days (which is HUGE for me) without soda and I don't foresee a slide back into my soda routine.

Now, it's not like I am kicking out caffeine cold turkey. I drink a vitamin water (the yellow one, that has caffeine, but not nearly as much as Mt Dew) in the morning and I have had tea in the afternoon (only once the headache sets in). The 2 of those drinks combined don't come close in equaling the damage one soda does. I am pumped about this. People who know me know I like my soda. Not anymore.

I am curious to know what other runners drink throughout the day (from wake to sleep). I am also curious to know what others think about soda, and the damage it does to your body.

Today is an off-day for me. I might go swimming tonight. I might go take care of my xbox 360 problems and buy the new Madden '08 football game. I'm tempted by both. Decisions, decisions........

I personally do not drink soda. I actually hate it. Never got into drinking it as a kid. I really only ever drink water (ICE COLD) and Iced Tea. ;) And lots of it.

I am so plain!

Congrts on kicking the soda monster!

I used to be a Mountain Dew junkie - in younger years I would have at least 2-3 a day. I gave it up, along with all sodas, several years ago. I don't remember the original reason why, but now I avoid all sugary, corn syrupy, artificial sweetened stuffs...

Anyway, your question was what do other people drink... I did get bored drinking regular water all the time, so now I drink either plain water or rasberry or lime flavored selzer water - the cheap publix brand (only 50-60 cents a 2 liter). I try to have a glass of juice every day and some fruit (which contains water too.) I've never been a health nut but since I started eating more fruit there have been subtle improvements in my health - like energy, healthier nails, skin - which make me think it's doing a lot of good on the inside too.

I'm preparing for scurvy! I don't eat fruit at all...it's a texture thing. I know I should, but I can't. I was forced to sit at the dinner table as a kid until I ate my syrupy peaches and ended up winning that battle by sitting there until 1:00am. I was then told to go straight to bed.

Anyways...good on ya for giving up soda. Rundoodle is s-m-r-t to stop with all of the artificial "corn syrupy" stuff, too. Maybe I'll start small and drink more juice?

I made it 5 days, and I had a Vault this morning. I'm not worried, because I have already cut back and if I have 1 soda every 5 days, I'm happy with that.

I sounds like an addict--oh wait, I am.

Erik--Definitely drink more juice! It's SO much better for you than soda. Be sure to check the labels though, for calorie and sugar content. Some of those juices can be just as bad as soda.

Hello, I think your blog is very interesting and useful. Energy drinks are very helpful when you do need to sleep and besides they have different tastes and flavors. I like Vault Soda is my favorite drink. Doctors claim it (and the rest) to be harmful for the health because of its ingredients. Besides, consumers tend to claim as well. You can look up all the complaints on www.pissedconsumer.com.
